About us.

PITU celebrates the profound connection between nature and humanity through the art of traditional Balinese craftsmanship. We specialize in creating unique jewellery from the ata plant, a natural resource indigenous to Indonesia. By working with underpaid local artisans in Bali, we aim to provide them with additional income, thereby supporting their livelihoods and preserving their cultural heritage.

The name “PITU” means “7” in Balinese, and it also mirrors the founder’s name, which is inspired by the “lucky number 7” in Japanese culture. Through our jewellery, we hope to bring you happiness, love, and good fortune, embodying the essence of both cultures.

Our mission at PITU jewellery is to craft exquisite “ata jewellery” using traditional methods while expanding its recognition beyond Bali. By doing so, we aim to create more employment opportunities within the local Balinese community and provide a sustainable source of income for the artisans involved. This not only helps to preserve their cultural heritage but also supports their livelihoods.

Our vision is to ensure that each craftsman involved in our brand can enjoy a steady income, contributing to the protection and continuation of Balinese craftsmanship. Through our work, we strive to honor and elevate the rich traditions of Bali while fostering environmental and cultural sustainability.

Founder / Creative Director, Nana Usami.

I am Nana, the Founder and Creative Director of PITU jewellery. Currently, I am pursuing a Master’s degree in Environmental Management and Policy at Lund University, having previously completed my undergraduate studies there. My career aspiration is to contribute to environmental conservation, a passion that has deeply influenced my work with PITU jewellery.

Born in Japan and having moved to Bali at the age of 12, I have been profoundly inspired by the island’s vibrant culture and natural beauty. It was in Bali that I encountered the remarkable handcraft of local artisans and became captivated by the ata plant, traditionally used for making basket bags and kitchenware. Recognizing the potential to innovate, I embarked on a journey to design unique jewellery from the ata plant, a first of its kind.
